While you are busy making plans for 2020, our Troy dentists want to remind you that now is the perfect time to make a dental plan for the new year, as well. Here are some suggestions:
Recommit to your daily oral hygiene routine: for most patients brushing twice a day and flossing once at night will be sufficient to clear away plaque. If you need to follow a different routine, you dentist will be able to give you personalized suggestions. The important thing is that you follow your dentist’s instructions every day (no skipping!) and that you clean your smile for a full two minutes every time you brush.
Take a look at your dental tools: if you have been using your current toothbrush for more than three or four months, it is probably time to replace it. And since you are evaluating your oral hygiene tools, take the time to make sure that the floss you are using is thin enough to reach all the way down, and slightly into, your gum tissue.
Schedule your bi-annual appointments now: it so easy to fall behind when it comes to professional dental care, especially when life gets busy. That is why our dental team encourages you to schedule your six-month dental cleanings and assessments now, while you are thinking of it. Some people will need to come in more frequently than every six months—especially those people dealing diabetes and advanced periodontal disease.
The beginning of a new year is a great time to take a look at your oral hygiene routine and make any tweaks and improvements necessary. It is so easy to fall into a rut when it comes to caring for your smile; our Troy dentists will help you get out of it.
